Ryde Saints FC – Champions!
As you may recall, we sponsor a football team on the Isle of Wight, managed by Jamie McInnes, son of Angus, our Export Manager for sea & road. After another successful season with teamwork and determination at the forefront of their success. Like any winning team, desire to succeed is important, but working together for a common goal is the ultimate. Manager Jamie provides us with a report for the season;
“The team had a fantastic preseason. We spent a week on tour in Lancashire; playing three friendly games against teams from Blackpool, Liverpool and Manchester as well as visiting Old Trafford and Anfield. There was lots of fun to be had too as we spent a day on the thrill rides at Blackpool pleasure beach and also visited the largest indoor water park in the UK! Preseason was completed as we took on a Reading FC academy side at the Madejski stadium.
After winning the league in the 2012/13 season, it was always going to be tough to match that achievement. I’ve always said its extremely tough to get to the top, but ever tougher to stay there! We lost our first league game in over 18 months near the start of the season with was a bit of a blow. However, the boys showed fantastic character and determination to bounce back and go on to retain our league title. What really impressed me about this title, was the character and grit shown by the boys. We were behind in many games towards the end of the season but dug deep to comeback and secure the vital points.
Next season will be a real challenge for us, but I know the boys will rise to it. We are going to be competing in the Saturday Mid Solent League, against some the best teams from Hampshire. We are always keen to improve season upon season so we feel this is the natural step in our progression.
On behalf of all the lads, I would like to personally thank Southampton Freight Services Ltd for the wonderful and very generous continued support of the team. The kit really does make us stand out from the crowd.
Up the Saints!
Jamie McInnes
Team Manager
We at Southampton Freight Services Ltd wish Jamie and the team another successful season and look forward to updating you on their progress!
